– About Ben Michal –

About Ben MichalEncouraged by a creative family background, he started painting as a small child and had his first art exhibition at the age of four. All those attending this early exhibition encouraged a life-long enthusiasm for art and design. His mentors and tutors during his early art career were the artist Judith Gluckman, Nina Campbell-Quine, and later Cecil Skotnes.

As a young adult, Ben Michal pursued architecture and achieved his Bachelor of Architecture setting aside his love of painting.

After a long absence in 2006 his calling arrived as he slowly began painting again. Shortly thereafter he received several art commissions for his work including a commission by Joel and Julie Diamond for a new penthouse they had acquired in Las Vegas.

In 2009, the artist was presented a Prize by the Palm Springs Art Museum and Artists Council and was commended for his commitment to the fine arts.

Since then, he started to produce bigger and more varied artwork. This form of art is labor intensive, and with limited production, soon there was a waiting list for buyers wanting to own his artwork.

Through his life, Ben Michal has traveled the world, bringing multi-cultural experiences to his canvases “I love to see the thickness of paint and the movement from a brush stroke, palette knife or roller. I even take a tooth brush to flick on texture”. Using mixed media his artwork is eclectic and his signature works playful and exciting.

Ben Michal is an abstractionist at heart. His approach to art is the opposite of his classical training. He allows himself the liberty of using layer upon layers of brilliant color conjuring the memory of an impressionist stage, creating a vision to be discovered at different times and under differing lights.
